NEW NATIONAL AUTO EMISSION STANDARDS
For the first time ever, there will be a national emission standard for cars and trucks, following after the California, criticized for having the strictest standard in the nation. Ironically, U.S. auto companies actually support the new standard.
With this new standard, no longer will the companies have to manufacture specialty cars for states with different emission standards. Now under these new standards, they can unify their production and save money in the long-run.
The standards will make sure new cars must hit a 42 mile-per-gallon quota by year 2016. Light trucks will need to hit 26.2 miles per gallon.
President Obama became personally involved in this issue, seeing it as a perfect opportunity to cut green-house gases and aid America auto companies in their time of financial recession.
